What is the purpose of FarmPartner?

FarmPartner is an automated system specifically designed for pairing young aspiring farmers with retiring farmers for career, ownership, and mentoring opportunities.

What is the cost?

FarmPartner is free to all transitioning and aspiring farmers, and includes unlimited access to the library of resources at eLegacyConnect.com.

How do I get started?

To get started, simply email us, providing your first and last name.  We’ll pre-register you for your complimentary membership, and then respond back via email with access instructions for you to initiate your FarmPartner profile.

Once a profile is established, what happens next?

eLegacyConnect will automatically search for appropriate aspiring/transitioning matches based on respective personal/professional/operational characteristics.  As profiles are matched, both transitioning and aspiring farmers will be notified.

What portion of a profile may be viewed by others (by whom, and under what circumstances)?

The profile for both transitioning and aspiring farmers is available only after the automated system identifies a match and the respective match grants permission.

If spouses/partners/siblings aspire to farm together should separate profiles be established?

You may consider establishing two profiles or use one person as the lead/managing member to complete the profile. Then include additional partner information in the ‘other’ area of the profile.

Is profile information (education, experience) verified for accuracy by eLegacyConnect staff?

No. It is not possible to review each retiring and aspiring farmer profile for accuracy. It is strongly suggested that respective members perform appropriate due diligence measures prior to committing to agreements and/or resources toward a working relationship.

How often should a profile be updated?

A profile should be updated to reflect personal/professional situations that may affect the match.

Is it a member’s responsibility to monitor new ‘aspiring’ profiles (for transitioning) or ‘transitioning’ profiles (for aspiring)?

eLegacyConnect will automatically search for appropriate aspiring/transitioning matches based on respective personal/professional/operational characteristics. As profiles are matched, both transitioning and aspiring farmers will be notified.

Upon notification of a potential match, what is the next step?

Coming up, FarmPartner will be augmented to include action plans, interview guides, and selection criteria.

It also is helpful for both transitioning/aspiring farmers to participate in a mentor/protégé relationship and professional development program coordinated with eLegacyConnect.

Where do I access the other tools I need to transition?

Going from an initial match to ownership transition can be a self-paced step-by-step process using the resource center at eLegacyConnect. It has the tools you’ll need including interview guides, templates for creating job descriptions and operating agreements. It’s complete with employment manual items and our roster of qualified advisors who are available 365 days per year, 24 hours a day to help you start off on the right foot.

Is there a Welcome Guide (user guide) available for eLegacyConnect?

Yes.  The Welcome Guide offers a brief tour of key site features (including FarmPartner), and will be updated regularly as additional elements are activated.
